What We Do
eCommunication
Microsoft SharePoint is currently being rolled-out across Knowsley Council and Schools, with the overall aim being to improve communication, information and document sharing. The E-Communication and Procurement team leads on the development for this within Children’s Services. The Corporate Intranet is shared with staff from the Council and our schools. Known as ‘The Knowsley Workplace’ it is built upon SharePoint and the identification and training of Super Users has already taken place, however our next phase of the roll-out, around the use of Workspaces, has only just began.
We are working closely with key members of staff across the Council, Technology, Systems and Communications as well as other colleagues across Children’s Services to identify the Workspaces required to a) transfer colleagues’ files currently stored on our own server (Team Workspaces) b) identify Project workspaces and c) identify what Meeting workspaces are also needed. Training teams and in the very near future, our schools - with the assistance of our City Learning Centre and Support for Schools staff, to manage their Workspaces is our next phase of the roll-out.
eLearning
Through the ongoing management of the E-Learning Credit scheme, combined with previous initiatives such as our Interactive Whiteboard and Laptop for Teachers schemes, we provide learners and teachers with engaging, exciting, stimulating and relevant curriculum digital resources to enhance lessons taught within our classrooms.
We now organise a termly E-Learning Roadshow for Knowsley Schools, this enables us to determine what products receive the most favourable feedback. In turn, this leads to discussions between ourselves and those particular Companies to ensure that the best possible pricing mechanism is offered to our schools as we then recommend those particular resources as an Authority where schools have the option to chose whether to subscribe to them, or not. Click here to register interest in participating at a future Roadshow.
The digital resources we recommend are accessed through the Knowsley Learning Portal, which is a customised version of Content Stream. This acts as a one stop shop for schools to retrieve their subscribed-to digital content, free resources such as our City Learning Centre based content and useful websites.
Policies and Procedures
Working closely with the Principal Manager of the Technology, Systems and Communications Service and other key members of staff, we help to put together a whole range of policies and procedures for Children’s Services to implement, maintain and support best practice, including processes for effective communication to all schools, the Directorate, wider Council and external agencies where appropriate. Examples include e-mail usage, internet, procuring/disposing of ICT equipment and much more……
Procurement / ICT Equipment
We procure, monitor and evaluate the purchase, implementation and use of ICT equipment across schools, using Grant 101 monies and also on behalf of Children’s Services. We provide advice and support regarding all aspects of procurement and implementation of ICT equipment and resources. In addition, the team is responsible for the maintenance of the Directorate’s ICT inventory and for the allocation of ICT resources.
