Today we learnt how to drum and I found out that Espigueros means a small shed on stilts. It is used to wind dry corn.
Today we have been learning about different kinds of wolves and have used this information to create a set of Top Trumps cards.

Welcome to Spirit of the Wolves
23rd July 2007 to 3rd August 2007
Through years of persecution the Iberain Wolf has dissappeared from most of continental Europe and in particular Western Europe, were population was once very dense.

Attitudes to the environment have begun to change in the last quarter of the century and the Wolf has since been granted legal protection. The legal protection along with the conservation of natural Wolf habitats, has enabled the Wolf to grow from its mountain stronghold to populate areas where it has not been seen in over seventy years.
In Spain and Portugal (the Iberian peninsula) the Iberian Wolf (Canis lupis signatus) takes residence, its much smaller that other European wolves and has a reddish coat with distinguishing dark marks. The Iberian Wolf in Portugal survive mainly in the mountains (the north of portugal), in the Peneda Geres National Park, Montesinho Natural Park and Alvao Natural Park.
The purpose of the Project is to visit the Peneda Geres National Park in the Minho region of Northern Portugal , to conduct educational, cultural and conservation activities, linking to school children (10 – 13years) engaged in Summer School activities in the borough of Knowsley, in the North West Region of England. This follows on from a series of summer schools held at Knowsley City Learning Centres, that allows the pupils link up with explorers to bring the world into their classroom.
Hopefully this expedition will help to promote awareness of Wolf conservation and conservation trusts and produce promotional materials, it will also hopefully have a educational impact with live links to the City Learning Centres from Portugal with the pupils and explorers and pupils exploiting technology such as blogs and podcasts, we also hope that we can establish conservation links with Portuguese wolf research and conservation organisations.
