ShakespeareShakespeare North - The Cockpit

Shakespeare North aims to create an iconic landmark building, The Cockpit, in the centre of Prescot, Knowsley, to commemorate Knowsley's Elizabethan history and connection with William Shakespeare, inspired by this largely unknown history, the Cockpit will promote social, intellectual, financial and cultural access.  A stunning replica Shakespearean theatre will be at the heart of a dynamic contemporary building containing a cinema, experimental theatre, dance studio, education spaces, restaurant, bar, cafe and internet café.

The Cockpit will be the home of Shakespeare North, attracting visitors from all over the globe, presenting a wide variety of the highest quality productions alongside a vibrant and comprehensive community arts and education

The Borough of Knowsley in Merseyside is an area of major social and economic deprivation - the third most deprived area in Britain. Drawing on the international Shakespeare brand, Shakespeare North will be a catalyst for regeneration, bringing new training, new jobs, new businesses, new housing, new shops, new bars and new restaurants. More importantly, it will provide a heart and soul for one of the most disadvantaged communities in the country, engaging, educating and inspiring at every level.

Shakespeare North will give Knowsley an international profile, bringing the riches of its extraordinary cultural past into the present in order to create growth and enrichment in the future.
