Outreach Based workshops

The museum education service delivers a variety of living history workshops as outreach at schools and community groups. These cover a broad range of curriculum related subjects. Each is presented by a character from the past and gives participants the opportunity to experience a little of what life was like in the past.

The Tudors
An interactive workshop exploring the times of Henry VIII and life in and outside court. Explore Tudor herbs and remedies, try on costumes and have a go at Tudor dancing.

The Romans
Meet Claudia, wife of a Roman Prefect, as she prepares for her birthday party celebrations. Help her to organise the menu, smell the fragrances and design a special mosaic.

Victorian Games
Meet Miss Honey, governess to Henry and Polly. Look at and play with their Victorian toys.

Victorian School Room
Your class will be taught the Victorian way, with the “three R’s”, writing on slates and preparing for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Victorian Home Life
Meet Bessie as she prepares the house for a visit from her cousins. Help with the washing, polishing, baking and rag rug making.

Victorian Wash Day
Meet Mrs Price, a washer woman and do the washing the hard way using a wash tub and dolly.

World War II Evacuees
Meet Kitty, a young girl as she prepares to be evacuated, travelling away from the dangers of the area to the safety of the countryside. An interactive workshop exploring different aspects of life in World War II.

Museum Based Workshops

Museum based workshops The learning service also provides a number of workshops within the museum to support the changing exhibition programme. If you are interested in being kept informed of these workshops then please contact Sarah or Karen at the museum on 0151 430 7787.

Object loan boxes

If you want extra resources to help your class or group explore a historic subject, we have some specially prepared boxes of objects, along with activity and information packs, are available to schools and help bring historical subjects to life.

The loans boxes can be hired to use with pupils, and cost £8 per week.
