During the summer of 2005 a group of friends travelled
to the Jaguar Ecological Reserve in the Pantanal region of Brazil. Our
friends, the explorers, travelled as
eco-tourists to see the fantastic wildlife of the area including the
majestic jaguar.
On
arrival, they found that much of the surrounding land is under threat
from big landowners who want to drain the wetlands and raise cattle.
The last chance for the wetlands was to convince a wealthy
American tour company to buy the land and set up an eco-tourism business.
Our team
had five days to draw up a plan...
The eco-tourists spent a week based in the reserve gathering
information about the area, its people, landscape and wildlife.
At the
end of the week they presented a plan to the Americans to
seek their approval
to proceed.
Here you can track the progress of the programme and
keep upto date with all the latest developments. We will shortly be updating
the 'School Gallery' with some of the great work our children have been
working on durning the week, including audio diaries of the weeks activities.
